New contribution rates are effective from 1st September 2009, which are on the unionís web site. In the current economic climate any increase in subs is unwelcome, but itís worth remembering:
a) The increase was agreed as part of a package that included increasing basic dispute benefit (strike pay) from £12 per day to £30 a day Ė an increase of 150%
b) We need our union to have the resources to support us effectively
c) Subs have gone up only 17% in 10 years Ė well below inflation
d) This is the first subs increase for several years
e) UNITE subs are historically low as a proportion of pay, and are lower than many other unions

Industrial action is currently suspended but the fight continues.
